• Caffeine Dehydration Myth! Posted on November 25, 2016

Caffeine Dehydration Myth! One of the causes for dehydration is diuretic, which is found in caffeine. A diuretic is any substance that can cause an individual to urinate, including water. A great example is water pills, which people take to force urination and treat high blood pressure.

Caffeine falls into the category of diuretic, but at high volumes of consumption. According to PubMed.gov, an individual deprived of caffeine for a period of time has to consume 2-3 cups of coffee or 5 – 8 cups of tea (250 – 300 mg) before the urine output starts to increase. This means if your body is used to consuming caffeine on a daily basis, you will not be constantly urinating.
