The one ingredient your kitchen is missing! Go green.
If you haven’t heard of Sarah Holloway, it's probably because you know her as the Matcha Maiden — a pseudonym she’s been using for some time now, along with bringing the benefits of matcha to us all.
We quizzed the maiden on all things green – here’s what we learnt.
1. Talk us through the benefits of using Matcha.
“Because you're getting the benefit of the whole tea leaf, Matcha contains up to 137 times the antioxidants of regular green tea and up to 10 times the overall nutritional content. That means the well documented benefits of consuming green tea for energy, metabolism, immunity, skin and overall wellbeing are also more concentrated plus its powdered form also makes it much more versatile than green tea bags as you can treat it like a superfood and add it to smoothies, lattes, raw treats, baking, desserts, even face masks!”
2. Is there such a thing as too much Matcha?
“I, personally, would say no as I'm fairly obsessed! It has so many benefits, plus tastes delicious so I'm a multiple-cups-a-day type of girl. But it does still contain caffeine (albeit not as much as coffee), so for caffeine-sensitive people it would be possible to go a bit overboard. But the great thing about Matcha is it contains a unique amino acid called L-theanine, which allows the caffeine to release more slowly into the bloodstream and helps avoid the jitters and crash often associated with coffee.”
